Quodana——A webfont that fixes Verdana’’s quotes

Quodana ’- A webfont that fixes Verdana’'s quotes

Verdana is a great typeface on screen, but it has always had the wrong quotes:

““Verdana’’s opening quotes suck!””

In Verdana Pro they are correct, but in the system fonts they’re still wrong. But fear not, now you can fix them:

““Verdana’’s opening quotes suck no more!””

Introducing “Quodana”—a free font made by yours truly, that contains only the correct quotes. Simply add the webfonts to your CSS and insert Quodana in your font stacks, right before Verdana; The wrong quotes will then be exchanged with the correct ones.

  1. Download the zip-file,
  2. Extract and put the folder “quodanafonts” into the same folder as your CSS file,
  3. Insert @import url("quodanafonts/quodana.css"); at the beginning of your CSS code,
  4. Add Quodana to your font stacks: body{font-family:Quodana,Verdana;}
  5. Done!

Known issues: Smart font stacks don’t work in Opera. Kerning generally doesn’t work across two fonts.
